It’s always fun to see homes decorated for the holidays. But, the best ones are those that have crazy “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation“-level decor with thousands of lights — bonus points if they have a light show synced to music!
Luckily, The Piano Guys know that a good light show really helps bring out Christmas cheer in all of us, so they filmed an epic music video for their rendition of “I Saw Three Ships”… complete with 500,000 Christmas lights.
In the video, Piano Guys’ frontman Jon Schmidt plays a breathtaking version of “I Saw Three Ships” (seriously, if you’re not mesmerized by the lights, you will be by Jon’s talent) on a piano covered in white string lights. There’s just one epic catch: Each time he hits a key, a different section of lights appear on the heavily-decorated home in front of him.
The display’s complexity (and sheer magnitude) give a clear visual of just how much work goes into a piano composition. As the performance intensifies and crescendos, so do the decorations. The lights are definitely entertaining, but thinking about them being tied to individual piano keys makes Jon’s talent all the more impressive.
Fans and followers of the Piano Guys have left more than 1,000 comments on the video. There are a lot of jokes about how much the homeowner must pay for their electric bills, but overall, people are in awe of the performance and the creativity behind the video. One person said it showed the “true magic of Christmas” and another called it “beautiful and amazing.”
Check out the jaw-dropping performance — and light show — in the video below and be sure to spread the holiday cheer by sharing it with your friends!
